Move windows around
Snap a window into place, swap two windows and change their sizes.
Snap a window
These work on the focused window when Arrange is off or on Auto.
Keyboard
| Key | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| ⌃⌥← | Left half |
| ⌃⌥→ | Right half |
| ⌃⌥↑ | Maximize |
| ⌃⌥↓ | Center |
| ⌃⌥D ⌃⌥F ⌃⌥G | Left, center or right third |
Press a left or right snap again to change its width.
Mouse
Turn on "Hold ⌃⌘ to move a window, ⌃⌘⇧ to resize it" in Settings > Arrange. Then point at a window, hold ⌃⌘ and move the pointer to carry it, without aiming for its title bar.
Swap two windows
This needs Auto.
Keyboard
Press ⌃⌥⇧← or ⌃⌥⇧→ to swap the focused window with the one before or after it. Swapping past the edge of the screen sends the window to your next display.
Mouse
Drag one tile onto another.
Send a window to another display
Press ⌃⌥N to send the focused window to your next display.
Resize
Keyboard
On the strip, press ⌃⌥R to step through widths, ⌃⌥= and ⌃⌥- for wider and narrower, and ⌃⌥⇧= and ⌃⌥⇧- for taller and shorter.
Mouse
With the hold option above turned on, hold ⌃⌘⇧ and move the pointer. In Auto with your grid, resizing a window moves its grid line.
Now try it on your Mac
Open two windows. Press ⌃⌥← in one, then click the other and press ⌃⌥→.
It worked if
The two windows sit side by side, each filling half the screen.
If it doesn't work
If a snap does nothing, check that "Use snapping shortcuts" is on in Settings > Shortcuts. On the strip, the arrow keys move focus rather than snap.
