# Arrange your desktop

Tidy your windows once, or pick a mode that keeps them arranged.

Show me how

Findow starts with arranging off, so nothing moves until you ask.

## Tidy once

Keyboard

Press ⌃⌥T. Your windows spread out to fill the desktop. Press it again to undo. In Auto, it puts windows back in your layout instead.

Mouse

Open the Findow menu in the menu bar and pick a layout under Arrange. This turns on Auto, so windows keep their places until you switch Arrange back to Off.

## Pick a mode

The Arrange section of the [menu bar panel](https://findowmac.com/menu-bar-panel.html) has three modes.

| Mode | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| Off | Windows stay where you put them. Tidying and snapping still work |
| [Auto](https://findowmac.com/auto-arrange.html) | New windows take their place as they open, in a layout you pick |
| [Strip](https://findowmac.com/strip.html) | Windows sit side by side on a strip wider than your screen |

Each display and desktop keeps its own arrangement. Full-screen and fixed-size windows are skipped.

Good to know

Quit other window apps before you use Auto or Strip, because they'd fight over positions. Findow warns you if one is running.

## Change your mind

- ⌃⌥U undoes the last arrangement, and you can keep pressing it to go further back.

- ⌃⌥P pauses arranging.

- Quitting Findow brings every window back on screen.

Now try it on your Mac

Open three or four windows and press ⌃⌥T, then press it again.

It worked if

The windows tile on the first press and go back to where they were on the second.

If it doesn't work

If nothing moves, look in the menu bar panel for "This display is off" and turn it on. See [Troubleshooting](https://findowmac.com/troubleshooting.html).
